Chloroform ACS with a chemical formula CHCl3 is a colorless organic liquid. It quickly evaporates into gas. The other names of chloroform are trichloromethane (often abbreviated as TCM), Formyl trichloride, Trichloroform, Methane trichloride, Methenyl trichloride and Methyl trichloride. It is a very volatile, strong-smelling and dense liquid. It is only very slightly soluble in water (only 8 g/L at 20 °C) and soluble in many organic solvents. It is widely used in chemical and industrial applications.
